Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority Statement

Issued December 21st 2015

An Air France flight from Mauritius to Paris performed an emergency landing in Mombasa due to a suspicious package which was found in the toilet. Flight 463 which was carrying 472 people was landed in Moi International Airport at 12.37am local time on 20th December 2015 after the pilot diverted the plane as a precaution. The Kenyan Airport Authority successfully retrieved the item and after investigation it has been confirmed that the object was not dangerous. Air France's chief, Frederic Gagey told a news conference that the object was made out of paper and a timer.

The Government of Mauritius takes safety and security seriously. It follows best practices at airports and ports to ensure the safety of the island's residents and visitors. ‎We are working with the authorities and giving them our fullest support during this time.
