The Cellars-Hohenort contemporary classic rooms are located in two historic buildings. They are surrounded by enormous award-winning gardens shaded by 250-year-old trees, with meandering paths to take a relaxing stroll. It also has two swimming pools, and an excellent spa.
Each of the 51 very comfortable rooms and suites has a view of the beautiful gardens, and are individually decorated, with classic pelmets, drapery and Louis XVI-style chairs and a contemporary colour palette. Categorised as Premier and Standard Suites, Luxury and Double Rooms, some have balconies overlooking the pool, while others have views of the vineyards or the rose garden.
The Cellars-Hohenort delightfully old-fashioned character is particularly evident in the rooms in the Hohenort, the original historic homestead, where the decor is more traditional. It also has the best rooms in the house: the ‘Luxury Double Rooms with Verandah’. Home comforts include complimentary snacks and drinks, a daily newspaper and hot-water bottles at turndown in winter.
As a Relais & Châteaux hotel, as you would expect, the food at The Cellars-Hohenort is absolutely superb and the wine is exquisite. Of the two restaurants, The Cape Malay Restaurant, in the original house, serves authentic South African food and the waiters know everything there is to know about each dish. The Greenhouse Restaurant, is one of South Africa’s top restaurants.
The Cellars-Hohenort is well located, between the city centre and Waterfront (with daily complimentary transfer), and the charming villages and white sand beaches of the southern peninsula, like Noordhoek, Kalk Bay and Simonstown. It’s also close to beautiful forest walks and golf courses, the magnificent Kirstenbosch Gardens.
