Glen Avon Lodge: A real home-from-home.
I have had the very great pleasure of staying at Glen Avon Lodge, this delightful boutique hotel twice in the past nine months and I know that it will not be my last. I cannot recommend it more. It is owner run. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming and really make you feel like you are at home. Hans their General Manager is very visible and hands on, chatting to all the guests and very knowledgeable on the local area and what to see and do.
Located in the heart of Constantia it is very well located for visiting some of the top sights in Cape Town. It is only 30 minutes from Cape Town International airport and is set in beautifully manicured rose gardens. Two excellent well maintained swimming pools. Delicious fresh home made food and the option to dine in the evening.
My room on each visit had a lovely view of the garden and the pool. Their beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms are well maintained and have good amenities. The light salad we had on arrival with a glass of Protea was just perfect and just what the doctor ordered after a long haul flight!
The well known Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens are just ten minutes away, as is the pretty fishing village of Kalk Bay where there are lots of restaurants and bars. If you are keen surfers or want a dip in The Indian Ocean then Muizenberg is only 10 minutes away.
There are four fabulous golf courses close by. Steenberg, Westlake, Clovelly and The Royal Cape Golf course.
For wine lovers
The world famous Groot Constantia Vineyard is only 5 minutes away as is Klein Constantia and Eagles Nest which offers a superb two hour private tour through the vineyards.
Great restaurant choices nearby including La Colombe which has been voted the third best restaurant in South Africa.
I have said it many times before but I am absolutely 100% sure from correspondence with so many of our clients that it is this welcoming, gracious and entirely genuine approach which makes boutique hotels like Glen Avon such a very special place and sets it apart from many chain hotels in Cape Town.
