Top Three Tips for Luxury Travel with Children
Trying to condense twenty years’ of sourcing incredible family holidays is tricky, but here are my top three tips if you’re planning on travelling with children.
1. The right destination
Not all luxury destinations are solely for couples or honeymooners, and not all are focused on thrill seeking or wine drinking (although I can highly recommend some that are). Many resorts offer fabulous family orientated accommodation and activities and even special offers during UK school holidays.
2. Make a list
Do you need interconnecting rooms or are you happy to share? Do you have teenagers desperate to rock-climb, or a child whose life-dream is to see a giraffe? Make a list up-front of what everyone in your party requires before you start looking at resorts. That way you can quickly discount the ones that don’t make the grade, and focus instead on finding one that ticks everybody’s boxes. Oh, and don’t ever imagine anything is impossible – you’d be amazed at what can be arranged if you have the right connections!
3. Prepare for the Three B’s
If you’re travelling with young children then be prepared for the “Three B’s”: Bumps, Bruises and Boredom. I recommend filling a small bag (a make-up bag is ideal) with your most used UK First Aid remedies (ie: Calpol sachets, plasters, antiseptic wipes, Vaseline, aloe vera for burns and stings). This way there’s no last-minute dash at the airport and no fretting if you can’t find a brand you trust when you’re away. As for the boredom, don’t rely on gadgets as they never last as long as you want them to. I recommend packing a deck of cards – so when your children are trying your patience, you can teach it to them!
