La Pirogue Resort & Spa
The La Pirogue resort is built in the style of a fishing village and set in very pretty tropical gardens, the single-story rustic-style rooms set in rondavel-type bungalows under sail-shaped thatch are sweet, if on the small side. Those who want twin beds need to book well ahead. It has been recently refurbished, and dining taken up a notch, with Mauritian street food at lunchtime, seafood served in candlelit thatched kiosks on the beach and a new wine bar with a sommelier and private dining. It shares a Cinq Mondes Spa, offering treatments based on ancient healing traditions, with Sugar Beach Mauritius, next door. The La Pirogue resort has an imaginative kids club, catering for children aged 2 to 11, and under-12s ‘stay, play and eat for free’ at the resort. The fully-equipped boathouse has complimentary kayaks, dinghies and wind surfers, and trips by glass-bottomed boat.
