The Oberoi Group opened this boutique luxury resort in Mauritius in November 2000. Situated on Turtle Bay on the west coast, it sits in 20 acres of botanical gardens. The resort has an impressive 600-metre beachfront.
A Leading Hotel of the World, it is beautiful, and peaceful, and ultra-private, with magnificent manicured botanic gardens meandering through and rustic and unusual architecture and the twinkling lights of Port Louis at night, across the bay. The spa is lovely, with vast spa suites offering rejuvenating and holistic treatments.
Accommodation is in a mixture of pavilions and luxury villas, with sunken baths, and most of them with their own private pool. There are two Royal Villas and one Presidential Villa, all with private pools.
Dining at the open-sided thatched restaurant, with views of the sparkling ocean, presents a variety of cuisines. The blend of Creole, Oriental flavours and European dishes are complemented by an impressive wine list. The bar is in an exotic beachfront setting, with a spectacular sunset view. A private dining experience is in an historic gunpowder ruin preserved from the days of the French in the 18th century.
Its not ideal for sea swimming, but has the islands most ornate infinity pool, and white gloved beach boys delivering tempting morsels to your lounger. A wide range of other activities includes tennis wind surfing, water skiing, sailing, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing. Golf is available a short distance from the resort, and there is a fully-equipped gym.
