The Marine, Hermanus

per person
The Marine is part of The Collection –which includes The Cellars-Hohenort and The Plettenberg – and reflects the world class quality that has become the hallmark of Liz McGrath. Guests are accommodated in 42 magnificently and uniquely decorated rooms and suites, each with its own private facilities and views of Walker Bay courtyard, the manicured gardens or the Overberg Mountains. The standard twin and double-bedded rooms offer the same exceptional décor as the suites and the luxury double rooms, with superb floral fabrics and heavy silks. None offer a full sea view, although a number offer a partial sea view. Fourteen of the rooms include a balcony. The eight coastal themed suites have varied views of the sea; two have balconies, and two have a working fireplace. Five are split-level, including the largest suites which features a large Georgian-style bay window and a spacious seating area downstairs with windows overlooking pictureesque Walker Bay.  Facilities include two saltwater pools, a heated one in the courtyard and a tidal pool, and a choice of dining destinations. You can sip a glass of local wine in The Sun Lounge with nothing between you and the South Pole but 3,000 miles of ocean, or watch whales from your table at The Pavilion restaurant from June to December. It serves creative cuisine with hints of the Mediterranean and the East in elegant surrounds, reminiscent of the 1920’s with the original wall and ceiling lamps which once graced the Bathing Pavilion at Muizenberg. Origins restaurant is modern and relaxed, with an open kitchen and an emphasis on the freshness of the fish from Walker Bay and local produce from the Overberg region.  Relax with an indulgent massage or rejuvenating facial at the pampering Carchele Beauty Spa which also offers hydrotherapy treatments
