Susie Freeman and Beachcomber say ‘Thank You’ to our heroes
Before becoming a tour operator, I trained as a nurse, and worked in the NHS for many years, so I understand what our nurses and medical professionals are currently going through. In fact, as a senior staff nurse, working in the Middlesex Hospital in London, I was one of the earliest practitioners working on AIDS wards. This was a little understood illness at the time, and I needed to manage people’s fear of contagion, whilst not knowing if I would be infected myself. I know the great contribution the NHS workforce are making, putting in long hours in demanding, frightening conditions in the face of COVID-19, and how much they deserve to be rewarded
I am very happy to support Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels initiative, which is to offer a 50% discount in its hotels to say ‘Thank You’ to all the UK’s frontline caregivers, and give them and their families a much needed holiday.
I’m one of the top sellers for Beachcomber’s flagship hotel, The Royal Palm, in the UK, and send many of my guests to Trou aux Biches and Paradis Beachcomber. I am a long-standing supporter of Beachcomber Hotels & Resorts. I have an in depth knowledge of their hotels, which I find to be excellent. I also know the owners and managers well, so all my guests are VIPS.
Mauritius has done a splendid job at coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. All passenger flights were stopped in mid-March, and contact tracing with quarantine for those who had come into contact with COVID-19 cases, and all returning nationals, put into place. People are on a strict lockdown, with temperatures checked (and masks worn) at supermarkets. Food parcels have been delivered to the vulnerable, and businesses and individuals have received financial assistance, and the Mauritians are doing what they have always done, eating seasonal, local produce. As of 29th April, there were 334 cases of COVID-19, with 303 recovered and ten deaths, and only two new cases in the last seven days.
The health and safety of our guests and staff is our highest priority, and you are in good hands with our partner on the island, Coquille Bonheur, who provides your private transfers. They have put rigorous hygiene protocols and standards in place, to welcome you in a post COVID-19 era. They are closely monitoring developments and will comply with any new regulations and directives from the Mauritian Government and abide by local Health authority recommendations.
Beachcombers’ special offer of 50% discount on hotel stays and meal supplements applies to NHS and private hospital frontline staff and their immediate family. Bookings on hotel stays and meal supplements must be made from 20th April to 30th September 2020. It’s valid for travel from when the island reopens, until 31st May 2021 (excluding the Christmas and Easter holidays and stays in The Royal Palm and Paradis/Dinarobin Villas).
