If you are travelling with little ones, stepping off a plane after 12 hours and then having to do a lengthy transfer to your hotel can be quite daunting, so Shandrani was the perfect spot for us to spend a couple of nights and start to relax. Our holiday was organised by Susie Freeman Travel. Her name comes up consistently on TripAdvisor as someone who truly knows Mauritius and so Susie’s suggestion was to start our holiday at Shandrani for a couple of nights as it is only a 15 minute transfer from the airport. Within 90 minutes of landing we were through the airport, welcomed by Susie’s team, checked in and sitting down for some breakfast. I can’t recommend Susie highly enough. Her knowledge of Mauritius really is second to none and she gets to know you before making any recommendations. Not only did Susie go that extra mile for us, the hotels did too because of their close relationship with her.
Shandrani was the perfect introduction to Mauritius. The special Mauritian welcome, the friendly staff and great service all went a long way to get us feeling relaxed and at home straight away. We stayed in a deluxe room which was perfect with an under 2. There was plenty of space for us all and we could walk straight out on to our terrace and then over to the beach.
For lunch and dinner there were plenty of choices. If you have the children with you there is Le Grand Port, Ponte Vecchio and Le Sirius. The Teak Elephant (Thai) is for over 12s. We had a great meal at Le Sirius and Ponte Vecchio. At both restaurants the staff already knew our dietary requirements (thanks to Susie!) and were quick to point out suitable dishes. The children’s menu was fantastic and all of the staff were really good with our son.
There are 3 beaches to keep everyone happy with great water sports and excursions. My husband went windsurfing for the first time in 8 years and loved it. The wild beach is an amazing stretch to take a stroll, which Susie tells me is like the Mauritius she remembers from when she first started visiting.
Shandrani was the perfect spot to get to know Mauritius and to start to unwind. If you are travelling with a little one I would definitely recommend talking to Susie about Shandrani either for your entire holiday or a good resort to relax for a couple of days after your flight before you venture on to your next stop like we did.
