An intimate resort with all-pool villas and an underwater spa.
The hotel
Huvafen Fushi might not be as flashy as some of its competitors, but it packs a punch when it comes to its charm and amenities. It’s a short 30-minute speedboat ride from Malé, but it seems a world away thanks to its lush foliage and quiet sandy lanes giving this place a real sense of serenity.
There are just 44 private bungalows and pavilions, all with their own pools, from the entry-level beach villas to ‘The Cube’ a three-bedroomed property set in vast grounds with its own courtyard, games area, sun deck and private butler. Along with five bars and restaurants, including an underground wine cellar and Raw, which offers fresh and wholesome dishes from its perch over the lagoon, there’s a full watersports programme including expeditions with the resident marine biologist.
The biggest wow factor here is the spa with its mesmerising underwater treatment room, eight metres below sea level, an experience you won’t find anywhere else.
