Marrying in Mauritius

Mauritius is consistently among the top five places to marry worldwide.

This beautiful country boasts all the ingredients needed for the perfect beach wedding: idyllic white sandy beaches, turquoise, azure seas, waterfalls, mountains and some of the very best hotels in the world.  It also offers endless activities from historical cultural tours, botanical gardens, to sky diving, luxury resorts and excellent cuisine.  The Island of Mauritius has so much to offer.

Contact the Independent Luxury Tour Operator, Susie Freeman Travel, who has been organising weddings in Mauritius for over 25 years.

Here is everything you need to know about getting married in Mauritius

You need to be 18 or older (16 with parental consent), not be related by blood or adoption, have two witnesses, and be able to provide the following legal documents:

• 2 Copies of your passports
• 2 Copies of your birth certificates
• 2 passport photos each
• Decree absolute (if divorced)
• Deed Poll (if name has changed)
• Death Certificate and previous marriage certificate if widowed
• Non-English documentation must be translated into English and duly stamped

The bride and groom need to go to the Civil status office in Port Louis to complete these legalities. The wedding couple need to be in Mauritius for at least three working days prior to completing these formalities.

At Susie Freeman Travel we have been successfully organising weddings in Mauritius for over 26 years. The key to this success is to have an initial consultation with the couple to ascertain exactly the style of hotel and wedding they are looking for, and mostly importantly, their budget. We handhold the couple throughout the entire process from the legalities to the wedding on the beach.

‘Susie Freeman Travel booked all of our travel, organised our wedding legalities and gave us excellent local tips, tricks and advice about the wedding and the holiday surrounding it,’ says Georgie. ‘The hotel staff worked tirelessly to bring our visions to light and Susie her team were supportive throughout. We even got to spend time with Susie in Mauritius – the personal touch was amazing!’
