South African Safari
Our brief to Susie Freeman Travel was to arrange a family safari holiday which would appeal to three generations in a malaria free area of South Africa. She suggested four nights each in two lodges, Morokuro River Lodge and Ant’s Hill Game Lodge. She could not have chosen a better combination. Both were extremely comfortable and enabled us to see the Big Five and much more besides.
Ant’s Hill was the larger of the two lodges and with so much space that there was more than enough room for the seven of us and the other two families who were staying. We came away with fond memories of riding through the bush close to giraffe and antelope and a visit to a rhino sanctuary at feeding time, with a fascinating lecture on helping conserve Africa’s rhinos, at sister lodge Ant’s Nest.
With four bedrooms, Morokuro River Lodge was a perfect size for our family group, aged from 14 to 75. Early morning and late afternoon game drives with our very knowledgeable host, Andrew, were memorable as were the four dinners arranged by his wife, Kerri, all in different locations around or near the lodge. The food was consistently excellent and the service friendly and attentive.
