The hotel
It’s hard to resist the charms of this serene Maldivian resort, with a rustic-chic style, eco-friendly ethos and impeccable service. It’s also incredibly easy to get to, just a 20-minute speedboat ride from Malé international airport.
The hotel’s motto is ‘no news, no shoes’, so everyone pads around barefoot and mobiles are forgotten. You’ll have your own bamboo-frame bicycle to explore (the resort is big on sustainability, with a rocket composter for food waste and toiletries in refillable earthenware containers). The 45 two-floor palm-thatched villas are all stilted over the water, keeping the island wild. Inside, they’re spacious and airy, with big open decks and a ladder down into the water, while the roof terrace offers a chance to sleep under the stars.
Honeymooners will love the stand-alone Crusoe Residences, that come with its own small boat, or the Private Reserve, set on its own island, with a waterslide. Every villa has a designated ‘Mr Friday’ butler. Elsewhere, there’s an outdoor jungle cinema, diving galore and an overwater spa, plus four easy-going restaurants.
