The hotel
Reethi Rah has been setting the bar for luxury hotels in the Maldives since opening in 2005. Perched on a lush 108-acre octopus-shaped island with over six kilometres of secluded coastline and a short 40-minute speedboat from Malé’s international airport, the resort attracts everyone from Hollywood stars to international royalty who come for its desert-island setting and exceptional service.
You could spend two weeks here and still not have time to explore all 12 beaches, visit the award-winning spa, have a go at the climbing wall, or learn to paint in the artist’s studio. The beach villas, secluded in lush tropical greenery, come with their own private strip of sand and are best for easy access to snorkelling, while water villas come with infinity pools and a canopied sunbed for two.
Then there’s the fully-staffed Grand Sunset Residence, with two bedrooms, and a separate space for a nanny. Spend the day lolling on your private cabana at the Beach Club, before heading for sushi at Tapasake, the risotto at Rabarbaro or Fanditha’s Middle Eastern buffet.

The villa bathrooms are all huge and every room has a mini fridge for your suncream and makeup.
The resort operates on its own time zone, one hour ahead of Malé, partly so that you can marvel at incredible sunsets at a more cocktail-friendly hour.
An unmissable trip is on the resort’s traditional dhoni boat to nearby reefs and dive sites where you can spot hawksbill turtles.
