The hotel

Fairlawns is located just outside Johannesburg’s swanky Sandton district. An appealing stop-over for safari guests on their way too or on their way back from Safari in the Kruger, Sabi Sands, The Waterberg region, or The Madwike Game reserve. This tranquil, suburban oasis is found in a leafy gated spot at the end of a quiet residential street, the hotel – originally a 10-acre manor house which formed part of the Oppenheimer estate – is well located for those who long to be away from the freneticism of the inner city. O.R. Tambo international airport is a 20- 35 -minute taxi ride away (traffic dependent) Guests can also reach the upmarket shopping centre of Sandton, also home to some of the city’s best restaurants and bars, in just 10 minutes by car.

There’s something of the grand English country house here; with sculptures and beautiful flowers in their gardens and quiet courtyards. The accommodation comprises of 40 stately suites and one exclusive-use villa (with its own private cottage). The 12 entry-level courtyard suites are roomy and restful, each with differing décor with velvet headboards, low-slung iron chandeliers and open fireplaces- perfect on a winters evening. Bi-folding doors lead onto a sizeable bathroom (almost a suite in itself) with a free-standing bathtub. A shower and complimentary Charlotte Rhys toiletries There are in-room tea and coffee-making facilities. Fairlawns has an attractive Balinese style Spa which offers an excellent array of treatments.

Food at Fairlawns is excellent, with two restaurants, a private dining room and the Muse champagne room serving pre-dinner canapés and Perrier-Jouet cocktails. An extensive buffet breakfast is served here too, along with à la carte options.
