The hotel
Set on a granite headland beside the idyllic Anse Louis beach, on the wild south-west coast of Mahé, Anantara Maia Luxury Resort and Spa has an exclusive feel, with just 30 rustic-style villas, all set on a steep hill with panoramic sea views.
Each villa has two separate pavilions, a tranquil pool and glorious outdoor sunken bathtub where you can soak up those beach views below. ‘Whatever, wherever, whenever’ is the philosophy here, and they’re big on tailormade. You’ll fill in a form before arriving, detailing your favourite drinks, food and even music, and your mini bar will be suitably stocked, with that album playing out of the in-room Bose.
There are no hard and fast rules about dining either – meals can be taken at any time, anywhere, from the beach to your villa’s private gazebo. There’s complimentary scuba diving and a fantastic Balinese-style spa nestled in a tropical rainforest, where you can hear the birds chattering through the palm fronds during treatments.
