Bushman’s Kloof is a wilderness retreat situated in the heart of the impenetrable Cederberg Mountains.
The three-hour journey to Bushman’s Kloof from cape Town provides one of the best drives in South Africa through citrus-filled fields of oranges and peaches, and rust-red boulder fields. The hotel is located 30 minutes from Clanwilliam, one of the oldest towns in South Africa, and is a further 15-
minute drive on a well-graded dirt road that runs through the reserve. This is one of the first areas that the Dutch Settlers came into contact with the Koi San clan of South Africa, with their exquisite bushman paintings that can be viewed and give an insight into a culture over thousands of years old.
The small white buildings that make up the hotel are spread across the reserve, seemingly a part of the landscape as they sit amongst the rocks, green grass and flat-topped acacia trees. The hotel has a natural elegance that perfectly blends the traditional and modern while retaining a sense of luxury.
The hotel has 17 rooms and suites, and two private villas. The private Villas, Koro Lodge and Cederberg House are situated away from the main area of the reserve and are fully inclusive, providing guests with a personal guide and chef. Both have swimming pools and are sublimely independent.
Bushman’s Kloof takes great advantage of its reserve in providing a consistently changing landscape in which guests can enjoy an exclusively South African menu. Extraordinary Dining options can include a range of experiences, from a picnic on the reserve to a meal by the river in the River Boma.
The ratings reflect the comfort, facilities, and amenities you can expect.
Each category of room is individually designed. The luxury rooms, have private patios that overlook the beautiful gardens, while the Deluxe luxury rooms have separate lounge areas with fireplaces and access to four beautiful pools.
Guests are assigned to certain guides who then look after them throughout their stay, whether it be on game drives, walks, canoeing or the many other activities run on the reserve.
The extraordinary Dining options which allow for guests to enjoy a meal in a variety of different locations, all catered to a distinct theme.
Note this property is not suitable for guests who have access issues or disabilities.
Koro Lodge their private villa on the Reserve is ideal for young families as it provides excellent children’s amenities. Elsewhere on the property, children aged eight and over are welcome.
Book dinner at 'Kadoro', a renovated old shepherd's hut in the middle of the reserve. A private chef creates a uniquely South African menu cooked on a real braai (barbecue), while hundreds of candles compete with the star-filled sky above!
A must see are the Bushman paintings in the caves.
