The Silo Hotel is a building towering above the V&A Waterfront offering great views of the City of Cape Town. The hotel has been built and designed by Thomas Heatherwick a celebrated British designer. Built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex occupying six floors above the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA). Zeitz MOCAA is a contemporary art museum.
The hotel is a small boutique hotel with only 28 rooms – individually decorated by the owner Liz Biden – an eclectic mix of furniture, much of it made to her specifications. Persian carpets, chandeliers and bold colour choices. Décor aside, the pillowed lantern windows – their shape apparently inspired by grain kernels and intended by Heatherwick to glow like lanterns above the harbour – are the most interesting feature of the hotel.

Every room has a floor to ceiling view of the harbour and Table Mountain.
The bedrooms are uber comfortable and luxurious with decent space and a huge bathroom with heated everything.
The delicious complimentary snacks, wines, sweets and drinks offered in the guest rooms.
It’s not a particularly suitable hotel for young children and families.
The lack of grounds makes it less suitable to very active types.
Pre book a table on the roof terrace for a sundowner to avoid disappointment.
