Royal Malewane has an almost Victorian feel to it – you could easily imagine a great white hunter staying there. The dining area and lounge are splendid and overlook the watering hole, so you can enjoy a fabulous meal while watching a herd of elephants walk by. The staff to guest ratio of three to one and attention to detail is exceptional. They greet you when you first walk in and attend to any need, going that extra mile to make sure you are comfortable. he lodge was the first to boast a Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Blazon for its cuisine and the food is excellent and varied, with nightly feasts under the African stars or in a Bedouin tent decked with Moroccan lanterns if you wish.

The design of the accommodation at Royal Malewane, either in the classic-style Main Lodge, or the more intimate and contemporary Farmstead, ensure you are totally private but completely open to the game and the bush. I love the fact that there aren’t many rooms so the place has an intimate feel, and my guests enthuse about the peace they feel and the rare sense of utter relaxation there… the opportunity to watch an elephant drinking from your pool may have something to do with it!

Reached by an elevated walkway from the Main Lodge, the Royal Malewane Suites are private, refined and opulent, with splendid views. Six Luxury Suites have wooden decks, a rim-flow pool and thatched gazebos. The palatial, air-conditioned bedroom has a canopied king-size bed, a cosy fireplace in the sitting room and an extravagant bathroom with a window-side Victorian bath.

For something extra special, the sumptuous two bedroom Royal Suites are amongst the biggest and most luxurious in Africa and come with a private butler and chef, private game drives and four daily complimentary massages. Children are welcome at Royal Malawane.

The beautiful Farmstead, a 12 minute drive south of Royal Malewane, offers the same remarkable service and delicious cuisine for a handful of guests. Accommodation is in three Luxury Farm Suites and The Farmhouse, a three and a half bedroom villa either side of an elegant and comfortable main lodge. where after dinner, guests relax around the fire pit on the vast deck and reflect on the day’s adventures There is a double spa treatment room offering a variety of indulgent treatments as well as a gym.
