Located in the Drakenstein Valley, surrounded by dramatic mountains, with vineyards and orchards, Babylonstoren offers an authentic farmstay experience in one of oldest and best preserved Cape Dutch farms in the Cape Winelands. With a relaxed but well-heeled vibe, the farm hotel combines contemporary interiors with architecture dating back to the 1700s – thick whitewashed walls, elegant gables and hearty fireplaces. It also has the most breathtaking garden in the Franschhoek Valley, with over 300 varieties of edible plants, and fabulous farm to fork dining, guided by what is available to harvest.
The Babylonstoren one bedroom suite offers an altogether contemporary feel with luxurious en-suite bathroom and lounge area. The slightly larger one bedroom cottages embrace open plan living with their own kitchen area encased in modern glass. The two-bedroom cottages are newly-built in a pristine Cape Dutch style, while the one-bedroom farmhouse loft suite is one of the most beautiful honeymoon suites in Africa, with a four poster kingsize bed, luxurious marble bathroom, contemporary furniture and a cast iron stove.
For a truly unforgettable family holiday the Manor House has five bedrooms, which can accommodate up to ten guests, a traditional farm kitchen with an old worlde wood-burning stove, and garden games on your private lawn.
Plenty of activities are included in your stay in Babylonstoren, from wine tasting and bread baking to rowing at the dam, bicycles to explore the 200-hectare farm and a mountain drive (for a two night stay). There’s also a swimming pool set in an old farm reservoir and the garden spa, nestled in a bamboo garden.
