A luxurious family-friendly beach resort set on a former sugar estate with outstanding dining.

the hotel

Elegant but relaxed, the plantation-style five-star Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort at Bel Ombre in the southwest, has a spectacular backdrop of mountains and sugar cane. There’s a complimentary nursery catering for under threes, while older kids are kept busy shell-hunting, bat-watching and coconut-tasting. Teens will be off quad biking and mountain biking in the Heritage Nature Reserve.

There are 158 lofty, contemporary suites with ceiling fans housed in white clapboard buildings. Junior suites feature muslin-draped four-poster beds, and all come with a butler on a bicycle.

Don’t miss gastronomic dinners in the resort’s restored 19th-century plantation house, Heritage Le Château, also a favourite spot for weddings, or beachside restaurant Gin’ja, for just-caught seafood served Pan-Asian style. There are hammocks amongst the tropical gardens, an 18-hole championship golf course and a luxurious spa with wellbeing classes and a resident osteopath.
