An exclusive secluded hideaway high up in the mountains overlooking the ocean.

The hotel

In the south west of the island, 400 metres above the ocean, you will find the unique Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge.  This small ‘boutique hotel’ is managed ‘like a Guesthouse’ but with the full service of a luxury hotel. Set in 12 hectares of beautiful tropical garden, and surrounded by the mountains of Chamarel, this quiet mountain hideaway, reminiscent of an African Lodge, guarantees a calm and exclusive escape.

There are only 20 lodges, of which 17 have their own private pools, some with exceptional views of the ocean and surrounding mountains.  Each are styled with their own ethnic influence: tropical, Chinese, African or Indian. The building materials are sourced locally – wood, slate, beams, terracotta, ochre, beige and rust predominate.  The decoration uses local and Indian fabrics, objects from around the world, local paintings and old photos.

Chamarel is surrounded by the natural park of the Black River gorges, a protected natural heritage site. In this region, the World Wild Life Society has managed to save a number of species from extinction like the kestrel, the pink pigeon, and the green parrot.  The beautiful southern beaches and the renowned Le Morne Peak are minutes away.
