Bringing a blast of stylish, retro-chic cool to Mauritius, Lux* Grand Baie is modern and playful with a Miami beach club feel, underground nightclub, soaring atrium and a big emphasis on wellness. Families are welcomed with open arms: PLAY, the kids’ club, organises tennis classes and cake decorating, while babysitters are on standby to give parents a night off.

Rooms, designed by Kelly Hoppen, have sleek, clean lines and monochrome art on the walls, giving them an almost urban cool. There are three swimming pools, one with a daytime DJ and swim-up bar. Take a spin class in the gym or run around the 30m rooftop track with panoramic views of the sea. Or there are cooking classes in the herb garden, floating breakfasts in the rooftop infinity pool and horse riding on the beach.

The four restaurants include Ai Kisu, offering Asian tasting menus, and flagship Beach Rouge, with its pizza oven shaped like a giant disco ball.
