LUX* Le Morne Hotels & Resorts’ concept of ‘simple luxury’ means a café right by the beach, where you can sit with a coffee on the terrace overlooking the sea, or lounge in a hammock in the ocean.
LUX* restaurants are exceptional. You can watch the chefs at work and taste Mauritian specialties at The Kitchen, LUX* Le Morne’s central restaurant, dine on Italian at The Beach and enjoy authentic Thai cuisine beside the beach at East. In Summer, there’s pig on a spit and Mauritian specialities al fresco on the beach at Island Kitchen. Gourmet sundown experiences range from sea urchin, fresh from the sea, and Sabrage on the beach to an aperitif and snacks served by a butler, on the slopes of Le Morne Mountain.
Some of the rooms and suites are in picturesque chalets scattered around the lush tropical gardens giving the hotel a laid-back charm. The rooms are small and dark, so go for the higher category suites which reflect LUX’s ‘lighter and brighter’ concept. Ocean Junior Suites are perched on the water’s edge with a private patio perfect for sundowners, while the spacious Junior Suites with a terrace in the tropical gardens are ideal for families, with iPod docks and a whirlpool bath. Second storey beachfront Honeymoon Junior Suites have an extra comfortable bed, a whirlpool bath, and balconies for spectacular sunsets.
The beach has a good section for sea swimming, and there are four swimming pools. Activities here include snorkelling, wakeboarding and diving to tennis, yoga, horse riding and hiking. Le Morne is the best location on the island to learn kitesurfing, and LUX* Le Morne has its own on-site school and resident expert. The kids club, PLAY caters for children from three to 11 years, offering fun activities from art classes to treasure hunts, and high energy sports. The wellness concierge at the LUX* Me spa can help design a personal wellness programme, and bespoke treatments using their own exclusive tropical-scented products.
LUX’s Tread Lightly concept is about caring for the environment and LUX* Le Morne is now a zero food waste hotel, with food waste providing free lunches for hundreds of Mauritian school children.
