A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, set in a generous 60 hectares of tropical gardens, it is small enough to take good care of you, with a family-friendly feel. Staff remember your name and which room you’re staying in, and go out of their way to make you happy. The décor is mainly plantation-style dark wood, glass, marble and water, with cosy thatched rooves. It has the wow factor on arrival, with a lovely infinity pool drawing your eyes to the sea, and it’s beautifully lit at night.
The food here is excellent with three restaurants to choose from including Asian cuisine. A romantic lantern-lit wooden walkway across the ‘Barachois’ leads to a floating seafood restaurant and bar, unique in Mauritius, and all included in half board. It also has a fabulous wine cellar with over 30,000 bottles, and access to three further restaurants at Constance Belle Mare Plage – its 4* sister hotel. Its beach service is one of the best on the island, with attentive beach boys, many who have been there since the opening.
Guests are accommodated in 89 suites and villas including the lavish Princely Villa. Suites are very comfortable, all dark wood and marble, with lovely bathrooms. Although the Junior Suites are all the same size, those on stilts over the lagoon and on the beachfront are more expensive due to their special location. I recommend those with private pools on the beach for special occasions.
A large and lovely swimming pool blends seamlessly into the blue sea on the horizon, and an adults-only 24-metre lap pool, is ideal for fitness training. Constance Prince Maurice also has a great Sisley spa, with fabulous masseurs, yoga in the mornings and Franc, the excellent podiatrist to care of feet and hands. It’s also five minutes by shuttle for free access to the two best 18-hole golf courses in Mauritius, Legends & Links.
The hotel added 12 lovely Family Suites in 2012, and it has a small children’s club called Le Petit Prince with a kids swimming pool, spa treatments, and even golf lessons for children over six years old. It also has a separate dining room especially for children, and the chef meets families on arrival.
For those who want a totally relaxing and private holiday amid luxurious and stylish surroundings, Constance Prince Maurice has the ideal ambience.
